This "hotel", set in the heart of bustling Paddington, was so thoroughly beset with interesting quirks of personality as to serve Basil Fawlty's own farcical standards as highly recommended. Quaintly, upon check-in, the full payment of the accommodation (being for one week) was requested. Of this, my fiancee and I were thoroughly disturbed by the prominently displayed disclaimer which indicated the hotel would take no responsibility for anything - irrespective of whether that responsibility being shirked was actually the hotel's fault or not. The greeting on arrival, at best, was luke-warm, whilst the standards of amenities - for the price paid - was an affront to the standards of civilisation. Indeed, despite arriving at the pre-arranged time, our room was still being cleaned. Conversely, on our final day at the hotel, despite not being nearly ready to check out, were were hurried along by the manager so the cleaners could, ironically, "make the room ready for the next guests". This, following a week in a room that subsided at one end; was so spartanly fitted as to make Old Mother Hubbard's larder look well-stocked by comparison; and was, nevertheless, about as spacious as the heart of Mrs Thatcher. Despite the inclusion of a full English breakfast, the breakfast was neither full nor edible. Certainly, it would perhaps been more appetising to lick a hand rail on the London tube than to attempt to swallow another bite of that dross, and my fiancee and I thus resorted to eating breakfast out for the remainder of the week. In effect, this meant paying for breakfast twice each day - definitely not something we would recommend. Adding insult to injury in a place hardly conducive of our trust, we were requested upon leaving for our daily sightseeing that the room key should be left at the front desk. Despite assurances that the front desk had 24-hour attendance, on several occasions we found the entrance locked, or the staff unavailable. For the price we paid, this was a most unacceptable inconvenience at the end of the day. My most sincere recommendation for anyone considering this hotel is to try any number of the other hotels along the same stretch of road, since these all certainly have a better appearance (some even have four stars!) of civility. We certainly shall not be staying with Hotel Normandie in future

For a budget hotel I will say that myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our stay, tube station literally around the corner, immediately upon arrival the warm welcome received by Abdul was gracious, notes that had been placed upon the booking without prompt gave a hearty congratulations on my birthday, speedy check in no hassles, the room was ample in size and layout, gorgeous shower to refresh from the journey, in the reception an array of leaflets for guiding you around London something for everyone, breakfast for a budget hotel was extremely good and attentive staff certainly made going for breakfast a pleasure (extra toast fab). Thank you Normandie foe making the weekend so pleasant, although a curious odour of cats was evident in the room

The Normandie Hotel London is a nice affordable and clean hotel very conveniently situated close to Paddington Station. Friendly staff and nice traditional English breakfast. Good value for money

We stayed for one night at the Normandie Hotel. When booked in the staff on the front desk was very miserable and not welcoming. We didn’t stay in the Normandie but another hotel across the road which was looked awful from the outside and once went to our room I was even more disappointed. The room wasn't clean, rat / mice traps where next to the window. The bathroom was disgusting and only had a used soap bar. TO be honest we slept ok but the road can be noisy in the morning. In all we manage to have a quick shower and a few hours sleep but would've paid the extra money to stay someone cleaner!! Didn't try the breakfast as I can't imagine the state of the kitchen.
