For an Australian, staying in Durham Castle is a fantastic experience, there aren't too many Norman Castles back home! The room was excellent with a stunning view and that huge hall has to be the best location for breakfast ever. A very nice breakfast too. Then there's the Castle tour - free for guests - centuries of history on display. Thank you

Durham Castle Reviews
Great for novelty factor. Amazing to walk into Durham Castle in the evening when its all lit up. Remember that these are ultimately student rooms, but good student rooms at that, but student rooms nonetheless - basic but also kept very clean. Breakfast is great
Lovely stay at Durham Castle is in a great location. The room was clean and food excellent. Only difficulty was the number of stairs up to the keep. The free tour of the castle was an added bonus
I had a brilliant time here, after all who wouldn't jump at the chance to stay in a castle! The room was small (single room) but perfect size for one person and the en-suite was very well thought out, plenty of space without being too large. Breakfast was really good and eating in the great hall was a definite experience. Being a castle there are, obviously, lots of stairs and some quite steep so if you don't want, or can't manage them make sure you state this when you book. I only had to climb about 40 to my room but to get to the highest room you have to go up 120 steps, not necessarily something everyone will realise. Will definitely book Durham Castle again, brilliant, quiet location, couldn't really ask for more
I really enjoyed my stay at Durham Castle. It is undoubtedly a distinctive tourist experience to spend time in a castle that is not a museum but a fully operating building. This means that you do not feel as though you are simply communing with a long gone past but particpating in the vibrant culture of current day Castle life. The room is well appointed, quiet and comfortable with easy access to the WC and shower. The staff were particularly pleasant and helpful adding to the comfort of my stay. Overall, I would rate this as a unique and delightful experience
