Golden Star Hostel

The Golden Star Hostel is an old and very basic accommodation in a good location surrounded by tourist attractions. The rooms are very basic and the facilities sparse, but as they're really cheap, inclusive of a basic continental breakfast and you'll only be a short walk from Buckingham Palace and Westminster Cathedral! You will even find Victoria Tube and Train Station and Victoria Coach Station minutes away, so getting around the rest of London is easy!

Golden Star Hostel in London is in slowly improving some of the rooms, and most rooms (single, doubles, twins and triples) have private bathrooms, so you won't have to worry about sharing facilities with other guests. Inside your very basic room you won't find many facilities, but if all you are looking for is a very basic private room in Victoria, then this accommodation may be an option to consider. Most rooms contain coffee / tea making equipment at your disposal, and a colour TV to watch after days spent sightseeing.

Attractions

The nearest attraction to Golden Star Hostel is Westminster Cathedral where you'll get a fantastic view of London from its campanile. Head on from here to watch The Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace and wander through Green Park and St James's Park. In the opposite direction walk along Millbank by the River Thames to get to the Tate Britain, the stunning Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. This is a very basic hostel as the space was very limited in ensuite which really needed a dramatic makeover to be called an ensuite. Bedding dirty but quickly changed when I mentioned it. Positives are the location and bed was comfortable. Not for the OCD amongst us in terms of presentation but ideal position in London. Rating increased from 1 to 2 for the young lady's actions at our complaints.

Shower head was unattactched, no tissue in bathroom, bed extremely uncomfortable, messy outside of windows.

The room looked like it hadn't been looked after for years. The sliding window was broken and was held open by a piece of wood. The walls had damp stains all down them and the carpet was tired. The shower worked well (although the bracket was broken which meant you had to hold it all the time) and the towels were nice. Breakfast (whose arrival doesn't seem to bear any resemblance to the time you asked for it) was a cup of tea (without milk) and toast with butter and jam. It is incredible value for the centre of London but it does come at a cost....

There is no reception. eventually we were given seperate rooms in the basement. The window was held up with a volvic bottle. the bedding was dirty. We had to stay here but did not like it!

It wasn't the best place to stay. There was a hole in the window, and the breakfast was inedible. The shower did not have a hook so you have to hold it up against yourself. I do not recommend this hostel.
