The Golden Star Hotel is nice and central. The staff were helpful, primitive but reasonably clean

The room was disgusting! It was really terribly cold inside. We were freezing all night. It was dirty and they don't even have a breakfast room. We got our breakfast to our room.....but there was no table! Avoid this place. I love London - but I will never ever again go to golden star again

When I booked the hotel I wasn't expecting anything posh as it was so cheap. However when we got there, there wasn't even a reception just a bell to ring. The doors straight up to the rooms was open and I could go straight up, which I thought was slightly unsafe!!! Then we had to wait for someone to appear after ringing the bell who couldn't really understand what we were saying. They then claimed that they did not have us down as booked in when I had already booked an paid a deposit two months before. The man who greeted us put me onto the phone with someone who I presumed was the owner. When on the phone she persisted to just talk to someone else on the other side of the phone, Which I found quite rude.Overall room was clean and you got what you paid for. Breakfast in the morning consisted of two slices of toast and a cup of tea.

I was told that this hotel was a budget hotel. So what I was expecting was the very minimum luxuries, a bed, bathroom, and table. But I don't believe you have to have very much money to be clean. The room was very basic, which is what I had expected.
