I have just stayed for one night in Hotel California. £40 with en suite and English breakfast. Location is perfectly central for everything. Staff were fantastic especially reception (friendly and helpful). Room was clean, bed towels excellent etc. Ok, some of the stairway carpets were a bit tired but the general appearance and ambience was really good. The breakfast area in basement was really good, relaxing lounge beside reception. Leading off this was an outside balcony sitting area as well. Highly recommended for short break. Big well done for Hotel California, will make it my choice for all future visits to London

I would heartily recommend the California hotel for a short break in London. It is convenient, clean, economical and definitely excellent value for money and the staff were friendly, helpful and yet unobtrusive. If you don't mind slightly jaded decor and a very narrow staircase with no lift to ease the carrying of luggage then this is a jewel in the capital. Downside is rooms are not that well soundproofed so can be a little noisy

Good value for money, considering your 200 meters away from St Pancras! Small but cosy rooms, everything works. Breakfast is OK, considering the price (milk, coffee and orange juice was not good). The room had very little isolation. Of course it's not 4 star, so acceptable. No elevator. Very kind reception and staff. Excellent location for 2-3 day stay in London
