I have stayed at this hotel several times before and have always found it to be satisfactory, this time was no different. The hotel is quiet and very comfortable with a pleasant dining area, lounge and bar. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Unfortunately our room wasn't that great this time but I was told "You only get what you pay for"

The room I booked was a single room and for a 4 night stay was very small. The wardrobe was very tiny and the door could not open fully as the bed was in the way. There was only a table and bedside cabinet, so nowhere to put jumpers or underwear. The TV remote did not work, nor did the hairdryer. The breakfast was very good and the staff were very nice, but the room let the place down.

I found that the hotel itself exceeded my expectations with a good bar and breakfast service, friendly staff and cleanliness. Found the fact that the room only had two skylights and no windows a bit claustrophobic. Not sure if this was the norm or if I got a dud room

I really appreciated the lovely breakfasts in the Royal Ettrick Hotel. The late night bar was just what we wanted for socialising and despite having a room nearby, there was no noise. I highly recommend it and look forward to my next trip

I loved this hotel, good quality rooms with modern conveniences such as LCD televisions. I would come back to stay there again.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It’s very clean and well laid out. Saying hotel was close to princes street was a bit misleading. Quite a long walk but there are fantastic bus services very close. If was to go back to Edinburgh would probably stay there again.

Very pleasant hotel, with a high standard of rooms. They are currently upgrading other parts of the hotel too so are clearly making efforts to improve what is already an excellent stay. The breakfast is very good and is served in the very lovely conservatory. I would recommend this place very highly indeed and am hoping to go back there again soon.

I stayed here on Fri and sat 23rd and 24th May 2008 with my stepmum to attend a family wedding and found it a lovely place, nice atmosphere and the staff were really friendly and helpful, the bar food was great (forgot to thank you for doing baked potato with macaroni!! Cheers for that x) and breakfast was also nice. Would be more than happy to stay again or recommend to friends and family.
