Charlie Chaplin grew up in the area and launched his career at what is now the Coronet Cinema at the Elephant and Castle.

More recently, actor Pierce Brosnan started acting at the Oval House Theatre.

Kennington Park was the destination for the world's first motorised double-decker bus. It ran from Victoria to Kennington in 1899 (and of course it was red).

The Oval was originally a cabbage garden and was opened as a cricket ground in 1846. It was also the place where the first FA Cup Final was played in 1872 - in front of a crowd of 2000.
