Notting Hill Carnival

Anyone in London will tell you that you have to experience Notting Hill Carnival at least once in your life, so do it in 2012!

Held every August bank holiday, this is the largest street festival in Europe and celebrates London's West Indian culture.

Get ready for 20 miles of costumes and 40 sound systems, with music, dancing, floats and hundreds of Caribbean food stalls.

You'll be part of a one million-strong crowd of carnival-goers watching the parade go by and generally having a great time! If you're bringing the kids, go down on the Sunday, which is family day and is a bit safer, with plenty of events targeted to children going on too.

When and where:

Notting Hill Carnival takes place on August 26th and 27th from Ladbroke Grove and through Notting Hill and the surrounding area. It is absolutely free to attend, but watch out for tube station closures. Often Notting Hill Gate and Royal Oak are exit only and you can walk from Bayswater and Queensway.
