For the price - ok value. The buildings were new built but rooms tiny. Only the bare necessities were there. I did not have coat hangers and there was no iron provided. The beds were hard but the beddings was fresh and nice. The carpet was cleanish (some stains here and there but I did not have black feet after walking around as I have in other budget places), the restroom was clean. When I arrived the sheets had not been changed. Internet may only be purchased for longer stays according to reception but I would check with internet provider. All in all, ok just for sleeping a few nights for the price. A fair deal

The bedrooms and kitchens are adequate in themselves but there are a number of problems with this accommodation. The tiny bathrooms are poorly designed so that the open showers inevitably flood the floor and shower over the sink. The living area, by the kitchen, is barely adequate for the number of associated rooms, with tiny sofas. Added to these fundamental issues, the provision of items is appalling: a poor selection of stained cutlery and pans left in a plastic crate, with fewer cups than guests. Kettles that hold two cups of water and yet take aeons to boil. No soap. No shower gel. A vestigial amount of loo paper. The overall impression is that this accommodation is provided to paying guests in the same condition that it would be provided to students who are going to be there for a year and would have the opportunity to buy their own pots, pans, cutlery, kettles, etc, etc. Adding the shower and living room issues to that and one star is avoided only because the bedrooms themselves, while small, are okay

Room was value for money. * Facilities good. * Close to University Campus office (15 min walk) * Close to "down town" (30 min walk)

I liked the room very much, such a nice view sitting at the desk.If I was a student I think I would end up day-dreaming instead of working. I think that you should change the towels more often for people staying more than 2 nights

Reasonable sized room with good size, fully working shower and towels (although these were a small and thin) with coffee and biscuits. Also clean and with a good bed. Wall was thin and could hear snoring from next room. Set in a park-like environment and having a bar with comfy, leather seating and reasonably priced drinks. Meals not always available. Excellent value for money and I will stay again

Straightforward good value: Small room with comfy bed in a [otherwise empty] student flat. Check-in at the Shackleton Hall. Both flat and Shackleton Hall on Vale Road. The location is a good 30 minutes brisk walk to the city centre - by road or the very nice canal towpath

Generally good but with some drawbacks. One big problem is trying to find reception. Everyone I spoke to had problems finding "The Hub/Reception/Shackelton". I arrived by train into Five Ways Station rather than University station as it is nearer to The Vale. I thought that, being close to the University, there would be some signs/map etc but there was nothing so I had to ask around. It turned out to be about a 20 minute walk away downhill but having found The Vale there were many buildings and no signs indicating what any of them. In the end I stumbled across The Hub but during my stay I had to help others out who were similarly lost. If arriving by train at New Street then it might be best to get the #44 bus that takes you to The Vale but you still have a 5 minute walk to The Hub, if you can find it. Reception seemed very disorganised and ended up giving me a room that had not been cleaned. Since it was several minutes walk away uphill I left my bag there to go and sort out a new room. Now there was confusion on my payment and a deposit that I had already paid. I was told that I had paid for the entire stay upfront/not paid for anything/had not paid a deposit even though the paperwork indicated I had. Again, by showing my paperwork, all was resolved but, as I say, a bit of a shambles. Like most of these universities most of the facilities that are available to students during term time were not available to us. However there was a small store open which could be useful but Tesco's supermarket is only 15 minutes walk away at the top of Broad Street which is the main night-life place that can get very rowdy on a Thurs-Sat. A really nice way to get to Broad Street and the town centre is to walk along the canal towpath. It's very calm and flat, of course and will take 30 minutes or so. The room was fine but lacking some of the advertised items such as a desk lamp and hospitality tray/toiletries but they did provide a towel. The kitchen was sparsely equipped with no kettle (although one turned up when more people arrived) nor toaster. When I provided cloths for cleaning and drying, as there weren't any, the cleaners promptly took them. The walls to the room were a bit thin and you have to get used to quite a bit of door banging but the rooms were spacious enough and the ensuite had a really good shower. ompared with 2 other universities that I have stayed in on my trip Vale Village Budget Rooms was the highest price with no significant difference in quality but, like most of these places, it's still good value

Accommodation very good and cost very reasonable. Some initial confusion about exactly where I was to stay and how to get there.
