The place was a hovel, my husband and his 6 colleagues stayed for one night (rugby weekend), they slept in their clothes as they were afraid in case they caught something, it seems the sheets were dirty, there was mushrooms growing on the walls and a huge pile of dishes in the sink (looked like they had been sitting for weeks as things growing on them). I would be very embarrassed if any tourists from outside this country booked this hostel!!!!! Very bad impression!

The Cowgate Tourist Hostel is in an excellent location within walking distance to everything. The staff were friendly, the rooms, bathrooms and kitchen area were clean and tidy and the common areas were cleaned daily. Great accommodation, I would recommend this hostel to anyone.

Staff: good and friendly. Cleanliness: not too good I'm afraid. The black grime in the shower was gross. Location: excellent. Quality: mattresses were very poor with springs pinching your back in any position (not only my mattress but also my girlfriend’s). You really should be doing something about that, offering a good night's sleep is your core business ;) Good luck!

Not a great hostel... The room was ok, but the common areas of the hostel (corridor, bathroom) were really dirty. The shower doesn't work. We asked for a private room for us (we were three) but they put us with another guy.
