The Central

The Central is a money saving London budget hotel, located in the East End of London. Guests at this hotel get to enjoy the benefit of being located above a traditional London pub. This atmospheric Victorian pub is a great place to soak up a real taste of the East End. You can relax with a drink or enjoy a game of pool or darts. Staying at The Central you will see a completely different side of London life, which contrasts dramatically with that of Kensington and Notting Hill.

The Central is ideal for tourists and students who are travelling on a budget. Rates are considerably cheaper than those of more central hotels and transport links from Upton Park make travelling around East London easy, with train access to Central London. The majority of rooms are singles, but double, triple and twin rooms are also available. The Central is self-catering accommodation, so there is a well-equipped kitchen for saving money on meals.

Attractions

The Central is a short tube ride away from Greenwich, where you can visit the National Maritime Museum, the Greenwich Meridian and even take a boat tour into Central London. You can also explore the markets of the East End such as Petticoat Lane, Spitalfields and Columbia Road Flower Market, all of which are easy to access and give you a sense of the lively East End atmosphere.

The hotel is OK, but avoid staying at weekends as there will be lot of noise in the bar room at down stairs. They have not provided breakfast on sunday (31st Jan) and there is no notice of it. I struggled on that day morning as I am a diabetic and ran around nearby to grab a bite.

Very basic accommodation in what was a long time ago a very nice Victorian pub. Terrible beer accompanied by very loud music at the weekend. Woken at 3.30am to Hotel California blaring away from the pub downstairs (Used to be my favourite song).

I was late to check in due to flight inconvenience and although I did manage to check in in the end, it was not without serious incident. They do not allow late check-ins, which I consider (along with most of the global population) to be a basic necessity of running a hotel. If you do not wish people to arrive at your house late at night then I can understand such a mentality, but if that is the case then do not run a hotel. The room itself was warm and comfortable and I was satisfied with the quality for the price. The location was a little undesirable but I had chosen to stay there because of work nearby. It is easy to reach the train station and go to East London from there
