Royal Ettrick Hotel

The newly refurbished Royal Ettrick Hotel is set within the mature, leafy, Victorian suburbs to the south of Edinburgh city centre. This popular residential area has housed some of its most famous inhabitants, past and present including Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling and John Napier, the inventor of the decimal point! Built in the 1860's as the grand home of a rich Edinburgh barrister, The Royal Ettrick remained a private residence until its conversion to a hotel during the 1940's.

Royal Ettrick Hotel offers 18 bedrooms situated on three floors, with bedrooms on the upper levels accessed via the original ornate staircase. The hotel has private parking and excellent public transport links, with two main bus services into the heart of the city stopping directly in front of the hotel. Waverley Train Station is close by, and Edinburgh Airport is also within easy reach. The hotel is also within walking distance of the Merchiston & Craiglockhart campuses of Napier University.

Attractions

Royal Ettrick Hotel is well located for sightseeing in Edinburgh. From the hotel you can visit the stylish shops on Princes Street, and the Royal Mile is close by and lined with welcoming pubs, fascinating museums and beautiful buildings like St Giles’ Cathedral. Walk up Calton Hill to get a stunning view across the city, or if you have time travel up to Arthur’s Seat for a more bracing walk.

What a lovely surprise. A lovely, clean hotel, in a quiet beautiful location within a 15 min bus journey to the City Centre. Lovely clean and modern rooms. Ours was the Superior, which was one of the best rooms we've stayed in from many previous trips to Edinburgh. Polite Staff and lovely friendly Management, and Owner. Lovely breakfast, and I'm sure we'll return. Our other room we booked, 'standard' was nicely decorated, clean and tidy, but somewhat smaller in size. Overall a great experience, and we would recommend Royal Ettrick Hotel to anyone. Great value for money
