This is probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. There was a terrible smell of chip fat throughout the corridors and no clear direction to the rooms (it took us 20 minutes to find our room). When we eventually arrived in our room one of the showers did not work in one room and in the other the bracket was broken so you had to bend under the shower head to get wet. The beds were very uncomfortable and the breakfast room was just dire!!!!!! The only good thing I have to say about this hotel was the lady receptionist who was very helpful and the location was good being so close to the centre of such a beautiful City!!!!!! Cheap and cheerful it was certainly not.

Friendly, clean hotel quite near to the main Princes St. Within a 5 min walk you are in the heart of Edinburgh. Breakfast very good for a buffet style.

Hi all this hotel is central location to all attractions within easy walking distance to rail and bus links. Only expect 2 star service but our room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was suitable for rating but basic. You get what you pay for!

When on holiday you spend your day out. The cleanliness was excellent, breakfast good, close to sbops, royal mile, pubs, and restaurants. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Thank you

One of the beds in the room was very uncomfortable; it had an old mattress with springs which dug into the back and a very slim duvet, no blankets were available for extra warmth. There was a very dusty portable heater which only worked in some of the plugs. The shower room needed re-tiling and the extractor fan was very noisy and automatically switched on with the center light. As the small mirror light did not work it had to be used during the night, and oh for at least one hook in the bathroom! On the plus side, the room was cleaned well and there were clean towels every day. The breakfast was hot and plentiful and the service excellent, although there were quite a few bluebottles in the breakfast room. The staff were friendly and helpful. As this is a central hotel the road is obviously noisy and at night ear plugs are needed. All in all it was good value for the money.

I was there 22 August 2008, checked out Monday 25 August 2008. During that time, there were, if I recall correctly, 5 different reception people I had contact with. None were particularly friendly, or knew much about their own back yard! The youngish male (one of two males) was downright unfriendly, unhelpful, and quite honestly, useless. The wait staff were wonderful - friendly, courteous and prompt with fulfilling requests. They should be the first point of contact for visitors. The breakfasts (no other meals served there) were great, not that my husband and I eat a cooked breakfast - bacon, scrambled eggs, baked beans. I did try the hash browns which were not that great. Selection of cereals and yoghurt fine. The dining room and lounge were a reasonable standard. Most other "public areas", e.g. toilets and un-refurbished hallways were grotty. The bedroom we had was very good - clean and spacious. No views, but it was a quiet private back room we had.

Very poor. It’s basic which was expected for the price we paid but we didn’t expect wonky door handles that all 3 of us managed to trap our fingers with the bent key. They gave us only one key between 3 of us. The Scottish breakfast that they state is scrambled egg beans tomato halves and potato cakes no sausage and when I asked for a fried egg and either red or brown sauce they looked at me like i was potty . The bathroom door was see through very basic hotel which as I said was expected but I don’t know how on earth it manages to stay open with the regulations from the British Tourist Board

Although the hotel could benefit from an interior make-over - the room was ok. We booked a triple room and it was large, clean & spacious. The bathroom was also clean. We couldn't find the mineral water which was supposed to be included in the room. Breakfast was adequate, although the bacon could have been crispier!! We would stay here again.
