Commongate Hotel is quite a nice place. I enjoyed my stay there. The staff were great, very friendly. The room was average with pretty uncomfortable beds but after all it's 1\2 star accomodation. The breakfast is decent too. I would stay there again

Overall the room was clean, the tv worked well and it was a pleasant stay aside from the saga with the showers in several rooms not working including the one in our room. It was a bit annoying considering we had been travelling down to London for several hours on a hot/humid day. It is clean but the showers need to be sorted out and perhaps a later breakfast start for people at the weekend, otherwise it is okay for a budget hotel

Hi there I found the staff helpful and the bed was comfortable, but the bathroom had not been properly cleaned and it was unbelievably hot in our room, even with the window open. The fan was too noisy to have on through the night. We were kindly lent an iron and a hairdryer, but the iron had a dangerous flex (exposed wires), and there was no ironing board. It was good to be able to get fresh milk. The breakfast was small but perfectly adequate, and it was very kind of the chef to cook two late breakfasts for my brother and his pregnant girlfriend who came down after the cut off time. All the staff were very kind and considerate I thought. Just a bit too hot and a bit more cleaning required in the bathrooms and around the fixtures and fittings. Thanks for putting us up!

This hotel gives you all you can wish for in a short stay. But minus on the pillow and duvet, as it was too small

The first place I ever stayed where you have to leave your room key at the reception every time you want to exit the hotel. The bathroom was dirty with hair stuck on the wall.Curtains torn and dirty. The double room is so small no space for 2 suitcases. Good thing the only time we spent there was to sleep. Breakfast was filling but same menu everyday. I would not stay there again

My stay in this hotel was OK, there has been too much exaggeration about the hotel being dirty: I did not think that. Food was OK

Nice hotel, the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean but the bathroom could have been cleaner. We will return again

A bit shabby looking. there was sign saying under refurb but saw nothing of any work. the breakfast was disapointing. The 1st time ever [uk and ireland] in having to choose between a continental or a cooked especially for the rate paid. Room ok and the staff nice and friendly. The breakfast and appearance has effected the rating. The question is would I stay here again? Maybe. Recommend to others only if looking for somewhere to sleep and nothing else. Nice area good public transport links

Hotel basic but functional - no complaints there. However, my car was broken into during the night. I recommend taking advantage of the secure parking. In sorting out the aftermath, one receptionist was extremely helpful, and one less so

The hotel was fine for our needs - room was quite large, facilities what you'd expect for the price, road noise bearable, breakfast fine and staff pleasant
