See the professionals do Shakespeare

The Royal Shakespeare Company will end its season this month at London's Roundhouse, transforming the old engine shed into a cultured arena of the bard's greatest works.

Julius Caesar, As You Like It and King Lear will all be performed to packed audiences until February 5th, so book your tickets now, as the RSC doesn't perform in London very often.

In fact, this is the first time the company has performed at any London theatre as a 44-strong ensemble since the Olivier Award-winning Histories season in 2008.

Bring in the New Year once more!

London has a Chinese population of 80,000, so on February 6th it is time to join in and celebrate with them!

Some say that London hosts the biggest Chinese New Year celebrations outside of Asia and it's hardly surprising - parties are held throughout Central London and are centred in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue and of course in Chinatown.

2011 will mark the Year of the Rabbit and while the actual day will fall on February 3rd, on the following Sunday London will host the festivities, a free event which last year saw Chinese dance, music, dragons, acrobats and firecrackers.

A few London cheap eats might even have special menus to mark the occasion.

Do something different on Valentine's Day

When staying in London, why not have a very different type of date on Valentine's Day?

Around February 14th, the London Eye offers couples a romantic private capsule. Called the 'Cupid Capsule', you can watch the sunset or enjoy London lit up at night with a bottle of champagne and chocolates.

However, tickets cost £269, so you might prefer a regular "flight" before taking your date to a London bar for happy hour instead!

Check out post-war British inventions

Dan Dare & the Birth of Hi-Tech Britain is a temporary exhibition held at the Science Museum. It focuses on post-war British innovations such as penicillin and the jet engine, developed while the country was still pretty broke.

This museum is often populated by children, particularly in the half term break, so check online for its monthly 'lates', held exclusively for adults!

Experience classical music at its best

This month offers the rare chance to see Sir Simon Rattle lead the Berliner Philharmoniker during his short residency.

There are four London events held at different venues. On February 20th, the chamber orchestra will perform music from Schubert and Schoenberg at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, while the next day the orchestra will be at the Barbican to perform Mahler's Symphony No 4.

Closing the London event will be Wolf, Brahms and Mahler at the world famous Royal Festival Hall.
