Iron Maiden: Rock out at the O2

Now with an extra date added, Iron Maiden is coming to the UK on tour, stopping at the Docklands' landmark entertainment venue, the O2 Arena. This is the first time the band has played its own gig for years in the UK and they promise to play some of their all-time classics as well as hits from their new album.

South Pacific: See a classic West End show

After sweeping up at the Tony Awards following a successful run on Broadway, South Pacific is coming to London for a limited time only at the Barbican. The classic Rodgers and Hammerstein production, which has been made into two Hollywood movies and seen the Broadway production televised in the US, will play to UK audiences for just seven weeks from August 15th. Underage Festival: Under 18s celebrate

Just because you're underage doesn't mean you should miss out on the music festivals and events typically reserved for adults. That is where the Underage Festival comes in. Held on August 5th in Victoria Park, the event sees thousands of under 18s head to the open-air festival for some brilliant live acts, including Baio (Vampire Weekend), Dutch Uncles, Bombay Bicycle Club and Janelle Monae. Strictly no adults allowed!

Notting Hill Carnival: Get into the carnival spirit

Nothing marks the August bank holiday like the Notting Hill Carnival. One of London's biggest festivals of the year, it is also the largest of its kind in Europe as the streets of West London come alive with dancing, costumes, music and food, not to mention about one million visitors. The event celebrates Caribbean culture, with steel drums, large floats and hundreds of stalls. As there are so many revellers at the festival, visitors with children are advised to go to the family day, held on August 29th, which aims to provide a safe and friendly environment for everyone.

World Junior Rowing Championships: See sporting prowess at its best

Support your nation at a whole host of world championship events in August, starting with the World Junior Rowing Championships. Around 50 nations compete with 600 competitors under the age of 18. Here, you can spot the upcoming Olympic athletes and spend the day outside London, as the championships take place on Dorney Lake at Windsor and Eton. August also marks the World Badminton Championships, which will be the third time England has hosted the event. Held at Wembley Arena, this fast-paced sport will see the best in the game battle it out for the championship title.
