A night out in London is a must-do.

Are you planning a trip to the UK capital for a break? Well, it's savvy to arrange a night out and book a stay at a cheap London hotel to make the most of your weekend.

A night out in London is a must-do event because the city is full of good restaurants, fun bars and banging nightclubs.

Even if your budget only stretches to one night out in London, you must do it!

Now, some of you may be put off by the idea that nights out in London are expensive once you've paid for food, drinks and entry to a club as well as a taxi home.

The great news is that you can enjoy a night out in London on the cheap and we'll be giving you some tips on how you can save money while having fun in this feature.

We'll be looking at where you can go for the best happy hour deals, discount vouchers and clubs that let you in for free.

You'll also find out the cheapest ways to get back to your London accommodation after a night out because a taxi is not the only option.

Before a night of drinking and dancing, it's a good idea to enjoy a slap-up meal with your group.

There are plenty of decent restaurants where you can enjoy a lovely dinner across the city on the cheap if you know where to go.

You can take advantage of the many discount vouchers that can be found at vouchercodes.co.uk or moneysavingexpert.co.uk if you are happy to eat out at a chain restaurant.

For example, Pizza Express, Strada and GBK often have special offers advertised on one of these websites, meaning you can enjoy a set number of courses for a set price helping you stick to a budget.

Another handy tip is that you can sign up for a month-long free trial with Tastecard.

With this card, you can get 50 per cent off or two-for-one at plenty of restaurants for no extra cost.

Using its website or mobile app, you can find a restaurant near you that accepts a Tastecard.

You may find that you need to book in advance or cannot use the card at certain restaurants on Friday and Saturday evenings but you'll always find some that you can eat at on these days.

Happy hours

Once you've had a nice meal, it's pretty likely that you'll want some alcohol which can be pricey over the course of an evening.

You can, of course, go back to your student days and drink with some of your friends before heading out to save some money.

There is also the option of being the designated driver for the evening and asking your friends for soft drinks in exchange for a lift back to your hotel.

Of course, you don't have to drive to get back in London so it's likely you'll want some alcohol.

A top tip is to avoid buying drinks in rounds as you can lose count of how much money you have spent and how much you have had to drink.

Instead, buy your own drinks and alternate soft drinks with alcoholic ones to save money and to ensure you don't get too drunk.

You can also take advantage of some of the many happy hours that take place in London.

Top club Tiger Tiger offers 50 per cent off all drinks from beer to champagne between 5pm and 8pm every day if you want to get started early.

If you're heading out around Leicester Square, go to Zoo bar between 5pm and 9pm every day for 50 per cent off all drinks.

Another option is Verve, which is just around the corner from Zoo. This bar's happy hour runs between 5pm and 8pm everyday and offers 50 per cent off all drinks.

Bison and Bird, Clapham's number one party bar, offers two-for-one cocktails and jugs of cocktails for just £8.90 every evening between 5pm and 8pm.

If none of these take your fancy, there are plenty of Wetherspoon pubs across London that offer cheap drinks all evening.

Free entry to clubs

After starting your evening at a bar, you can move onto a club for a night of loud music, dancing and more alcohol if you wish.

We've all heard of people who spend a fortune to get into a club but fortunately there are plenty who do not charge entry, helping you stick to a budget.

If you're planning a night out in south London, try out the Jam Tree in Clapham, which offers free entry as well as an extensive cocktail menu.

A popular choice for partiers in central London is 12 bar club in Covent Garden as you can get in for free before 11pm. If you enjoy live music, this is a must-visit club as it showcases around four-acts-a-night, seven-nights-a-week.

You may also like to see what Brick Lane has to offer in terms of night life by heading to 93 Feet East on a Friday night.

Offering free entry all night and a happy hour between 5pm and 7pm, you'll be treated to both audio and visual vibes.

Those of you planning to go out on a Monday and want to see what London has to offer in terms of gay clubs, visit Heaven.

Every Monday, it hosts its popular Popcorn night with free entry until 12am and selected drinks at £2 each.

Transport

After a great night out in London, you don't want to spend a fortune on a cab and the tubes stop running at 12.30am.

To get home safely and on a budget, travel by night bus.

Buses run all night and you'll always be able to get back to your accommodation if you know the route - it's worth planning your way home before going out.

This is a cheap way to get home as a single fare paid by cash only costs £2.30. If you have an Oyster card, it'll only set you back £1.30 making it a lot cheaper than a taxi.
