If you find yourself needing to stay in Guildford on a budget, I'd recommend this place. I just needed a quick stopover but it did offer more than the basic accommodation that I was expecting. It's friendly, well looked after and - importantly for me - it was relaxing. The name did initially make me think that it'd be a pretty rowdy pub venue with rooms upstairs, but I learned that it was named after a local phenomenon. So I got a history lesson too! It's a comfortable, welcoming place that I'd definitely pick again if I find myself in the area. My room had all the amenities you'd want - good bathroom, plenty of space, tea/coffee stuff, clean sheets and so on - and I got a good night's sleep. It's a little on the remote side, but I can overlook that just for the pure pleasantness of my stay.
