How to get around Victoria
Victoria Train Station provides a direct route to Gatwick Airport as well as rail services through Kent and Sussex, which are popular with commuters and tourists. You can catch the Gatwick Express non-stop to Gatwick Airport in just 30 minutes, or take a Southern train, which takes slightly longer but usually costs less. Southern trains will also get you to seaside resort Brighton in less than an hour. Southeastern operates trains to Kent destinations like Ashford International in less than 1 hour 30 minutes where you can connect with Eurostar for services to Paris, Brussels and Lille.
You will find Victoria Tube Station just underneath Victoria Train Station. Tubes that run on the Victoria, Circle and District lines will stop here and take you all over the capital. In just under 4 minutes, you can get off at Oxford Circus and go shopping on Oxford Street. A 10 minute journey will take you straight to Notting Hill Gate where you can explore chic Notting Hill and browse the eclectic Portobello Road Market to pick up a few bargains. If you travel the 16 minute journey to Tower Hill you can explore the breathtaking Tower of London.
IfIt can be an absolute nightmare finding somewhere to park in such a busy capital city. Fortunately, there is an NCP car park right behind Victoria Train Station. You’ll find it just off of Bridge Place which can be reached via Eccleston Bridge.
Taxis are another alternative mode of transport. If you fancy using a taxi to get around London, you should walk to the taxi rank just outside the main entrance to Victoria Train Station. You will also find another taxi rank at the Plaza exit in Victoria Place.
Victoria On Foot
Victoria is so well located that you could spend your entire stay walking to the amazing attractions that surround you. If you start out from Victoria Train Station you could get to the Royal Mews, Queens Gallery and Buckingham Palace (the London residence of Her Majesty The Queen) in St James’s in around 5 minutes. The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey in Westminster are only an 18 minute stroll away, and Downing Street is only 3 minutes on from there. In Millbank, just 18 minutes walk away, you will find the Tate Britain. When you feel like shopping, you could take the 20 minute walk to Knightsbridge, home of Harrods.
Heathrow Airport to Victoria
You can catch a National Express coach from Heathrow Airport direct to Victoria Coach Station in around an hour. If you’d prefer to catch a train, you can get the Heathrow Express rail service to Paddington Train Station, which takes 15 minutes. You can then change onto the London Underground on the Circle or Hammersmith & City lines to Edgware Road, changing onto the Circle Line to Victoria Underground Station, which will take around half an hour, or catch the number 36 or 436 bus from Paddington to Neathouse Place which is 5 minutes walk from Victoria. Another option is to get the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow and change at South Kensington onto the Circle or District lines to Victoria Tube Station, which takes 50 minutes.
Gatwick Airport to Victoria
It couldn’t be easier to get to Victoria from Gatwick Airport! You can catch the non-stop Gatwick Express train service direct to Victoria Train Station, which takes 30 minutes and departs every 15 minutes. You can also catch a Southern Railway train, which stops at a couple of other stations on the way and takes ever so slightly longer but is usually cheaper. There is also the option of getting a coach direct from Gatwick Airport to Victoria Coach Station with the National Express, which takes around an hour and a half, and can be cheaper than rail travel.
Stansted Airport to Victoria
To get from Stansted Airport to Victoria in one direct journey you can take the 1 hour 45 minutes coach trip with National Express to Victoria Coach Station. Alternatively, catch the Stansted Express train service, which runs every 15 minutes and takes around 50 minutes to reach London Liverpool Street Train Station. At Liverpool Street transfer onto the London Underground and get a Central Line tube to Oxford Circus Underground Station, changing onto the Victoria Line to Victoria Underground Station, which takes less than 20 minutes.
