Durham Castle is only a five minute drive from the A1(M) and a ten minute walk
from Durham Station. Durham Castle offers uniquely different university style
accommodation in its grounds. This magnificent 11th century castle is part of a
World Heritage site, with beautiful Durham Cathedral next door. As Durham Castle
occupies such a fantastic location, it’s no wonder that budget travellers and
backpackers flock to stay here. It’s really easy to explore the rest of Durham
from this location too.

As you will be staying in the grounds of Durham Castle, it makes sense to join in on one of the guided tours. You shouldn’t miss the opportunity to explore Durham Cathedral next door either. Although Durham is a compact city, it has its fair share of shops, pubs and restaurants for you to explore as well as attractions like St Nicholas Church and the Botanic Gardens. If you fancy a trip outside of Durham you can always catch a bus to the North of England’s Open Air Museum in Beamish. |
